International Homoeopathic Conference 2025

They say that sometimes the most prestigious moments in our lives come with the most unexpected twists. My experience at the International Homoeopathic Conference 2025 was exactly that—a rollercoaster of immense pride, sheer exhaustion, a little heartbreak, and a touch of digital creativity.

The Journey and The Presentation

Representing the Department of Homoeopathic Materia Medica as a Junior Resident at White Memorial Homoeo Medical College & Hospital, I traveled from Kerala to Chennai to present my research paper. The event was highly prestigious, organized directly by our university, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, in association with Sri Sairam and Venkateswara Homoeopathic Medical Colleges.

Stepping up to the podium to present my paper was nerve-wracking but exhilarating. I poured all my hard work into that presentation. Because of the sheer volume of high-quality participants, the organizers split the paper presentations into two separate groups.

The Big Win

I am incredibly proud to announce that I secured the 1st Prize in the Paper Presentation competition for my group! What made this even more special was that my best friend and colleague, Dr. Tejas Vikas, secured the 1st Prize in the other group. Sharing this pinnacle of academic achievement with my closest colleague was a dream come true.

The Heartbreak: Why I Missed My Stage Moment

However, here is where my story takes a very real, vulnerable turn. As a student traveling from Kerala to a big city like Chennai, I was navigating a lot of anxiety. I was on a tight budget, had nowhere to stay for the night, and had a pre-booked bus ticket back to my college.

The conference, originally scheduled to wrap up by 4:00 PM, ran significantly late. By 5:00 PM, exhaustion and self-doubt began to creep in. I convinced myself that I probably hadn't won and that the pain of staying, anticipating a win, and failing would be too much. Fearing I would miss my bus and be stranded in Chennai without funds, I made the tough call to leave early.

The awards were announced at 7:00 PM. By the time my name was called as the First Prize winner, I was already on a bus hurtling back to college. Missing the chance to walk up on that stage and receive an international conference award from the dignitaries of my own university was deeply heartbreaking. It taught me a hard lesson about trusting my own capabilities and having faith in my hard work.

My "Digital" Award Ceremony

Since I couldn't receive the award in person, I decided to take matters into my own hands—digitally. Dr. Tejas Vikas had a beautiful photo of himself receiving his award on stage. Using my background in graphic design, I turned to AI to recreate the moment with me in it. While the AI did a decent base job, the face mapping was a mess.

So, I fired up Photoshop, meticulously matched the lighting, added the correct facial angles, and even put a flash glare on my spectacle lenses for ultimate realism. The result? A perfectly photoshopped image of me receiving the award!

While looking at this edited photo makes me smile, I know it will never truly replace the feeling of being there in real life. However, I am incredibly thankful for the hours I've spent honing my graphic design skills—at least I could give myself the visual memory I worked so hard for!

Networking and... A Quick Nap!

Beyond the competition, the conference was an incredible networking opportunity. I had the chance to meet several amazing people who were acquaintances of my seniors from both my UG and current PG days. Many of them are currently doing great work in the government sector, and connecting with them was deeply inspiring.

The exhaustion of travel and presenting did eventually catch up to me, though. During one of the main speaker sessions later in the day, I actually fell asleep right in the auditorium! I only woke up because of the alarm I had specifically set to remind me to catch my bus.

Final Thoughts

This experience was a massive milestone for me. It validated my academic efforts, tested my resilience, and gave me a story I will never forget. I brought home the 1st Prize trophy, a beautiful golden plaque that now sits proudly on my desk.

To anyone reading this: Trust yourself. Believe in the work you put in. And whenever possible, stay until the very end—your name might just be the next one they call.
