Fubuki SPM Figure Unboxing & Review
2019
Videography, Tech Review
About This Piece
This video was an experiment in collaboration and "cinematic" budget review. Bought at Bangalore Comic Con 2018, the Fubuki SPM Figure (from Kantai Collection) became the subject of a review that was less about specs and more about storytelling.
The "Sister" Experiment
Instead of hosting it myself, I handed the microphone to my sister. The result shifted the tone from a technical analysis to a relatable narrative: buying a figure, discovering the broken seal, and the genuine anxiety of wondering if we’d been scammed with a bootleg.
Creative Direction: "Nature Studio"
Lacking a professional studio, we shot the entire video outdoors in our garden.
- The Look: We placed the figure in tall green grass, shooting from a low "macro" angle (a technique called Omochesha). This made the 8-inch figure feel life-sized, as if Fubuki was walking through a jungle.
- The Sound: We embraced the ambient outdoors but used aggressive audio ducking—dropping the music volume significantly when speaking to keep the voice clear, then swelling it back up for transitions.
Editing Breakdown
- Beat-Sync: The intro features a rapid negative-color flash synced exactly to the snare drum beat drop (0:14) for impact.
- J-Cuts: Audio from the narration often starts before the video cuts away from the B-roll, creating a seamless flow.
- PIP Context: Screenshots of MyAnimeList and Amazon (showing the price difference) were overlayed to visually validate our discussion.
