About This Piece
This Anime Music Video (AMV) is a narrative reimagining of Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso), edited to tell the story of an alternative timeline.
The Narrative: "The Choice"
In the original anime, Kousei is drawn to Kaori, the violinist who ultimately passes away. My edit challenges this narrative, presenting Kaori's influence not as liberation, but as a "selfish" disruption that causes suffering for Kousei and his childhood friend, Tsubaki.
The Arc:
- The Distraction: Kaori enters as a flashy, chaotic force, dragging Kousei around and ignoring his discomfort.
- The Confrontation: Tsubaki, who truly supports him, steps in to break the spell. The "fireflies scene" is re-contextualized as a wake-up call.
- The Realization: Kousei rejects the "selfish" path and accepts the person who has always been there.
- Resolution: The video closes with Kousei and Tsubaki sharing music—a symbol of their restored, genuine connection.
Editing Techniques
- Beat-Sync: Cuts are aggressively timed to the snare and bass drops of the electronic track (TheFatRat - "Unity"), contrasting with the anime's classical roots.
- Narrative Re-contextualization: Using selective clips and sequencing to change the "heroine" of the story from Kaori to Tsubaki.
- Visual Metaphor: The shattering window represents breaking free from the illusion.
